BC Breakers 2015 Wheelchair Basketball Festival

Article imageMarch 24, 2015 BCWBS and Douglas College hosted the BC Breakers Wheelchair Basketball Festival on March 21/22 at Douglas College in New Westminster. BC Breakers played games against the Calgary Rollers and Edmonton Inferno women’s clubs from Alberta in preparation for women’s nationals in April. 22 players from BC and two women’s clubs from Alberta attended the festival along with 8 coaches and several volunteers. read more...

BC Breakers Festival on March 21/22 - Schedule Updated

Article imageMarch 12, 2015 BCWBS is hosting the BC Breakers Festival at Douglas College in New Westminster on March 21/22. The event is open to all girls and women, able bodied or with a physical disability, including new players and first timers. The event features skills development sessions and fun 3 on 3 games while BC Breakers are competing against two teams from Alberta, Calgary Rollers and Edmonton Inferno. 17 Women Gathered at the First Women's Skills Day on the Island

Article imageMarch 02, 2015 Last Saturday (Feb 28), BC Wheelchair Basketball hosted a women’s skills day at the Royal Oak Middle School in Saanich. 17 female athletes including new and veteran players attended this camp to work on their individual skills and enjoy the game experience. We were fortunate to have Tim Frick, the legendary former provincial and national coach along with Simon Cass, BCWBS Regional High Performance and Development coach and Marni Abbott-Peter, BCWBS High Performance Director to lead the camp. read more...

Mark Your Calendar for 2016 - BC Winter Games in Penticton

Athletes, with or without disability, turning 12 – 20 years of age in 2015 are eligible to participate (athletes born in 1995 to 2003). Up to two new or developmental athletes with a disability per zone can be 21 years of age or older if space permits. read more...

Vernon Club Hosted the Community Challenge Game

Article imageFebruary 12, 2015 Vernon Wheelchair Basketball Club hosted a Community Challenge game at Hillview Elementary school last Thursday evening (Feb 5), with students playing parents. Over 40 people enjoyed trying wheelchair basketball.   Prior to the event, about 245 students from grade 1 to 7 at Hillview Elementary in Vernon got to use the sport wheelchairs in the phys ed classes for 4 days. Tristan Smyth, BCWBS Interior Regional Coordinator, spoke to the whole school at their weekly assembly about the importance of staying active and playing sports for fun. read more...
